Hit the Reset button!

30 Sep

I find it helpful to start each day by re-defining who I am.  This is really a re-affirmation of who I believe I want to be, and helps me to strive to make it happen again today.

Today I want to be aware that I am not in control of the universe.  I might need help today to survive.  That help may even come from a power greater than me.  I will pray and meditate today.  I will strive to be a benefit today to mankind.

If I don’t start the day this way I am more apt to fall into old bad habits and selfish motives that lead me to be someone that I don’t particularly admire.

So, I find it helpful to hit the reset button every morning when I wake up.  I roll off my bed onto the floor.  Say a few prayers about who I want to be, and then meditate for 5 minutes.  I use a timer on my phone to help me out with a friendly chime at 5 minutes.  It is amazing how helpful this is in setting myself on the right track spiritually and emotionally for the day.

Achy Breaky

A bottle of Excedrin's migraine formula. Taken...

Sometimes this is my friend!

Sometimes it is just tough to get going.

  • reluctantly crawled into child’s pose on my bed
  • scrambled to the kitchen to get some cold coffee
  • pop a couple of Excedrin Migraine because I had a little head ache.
  • Ran some water for a bath because I did not really want to stand up through an entire shower
  • Got dressed after the bath
  • fed the cat
  • started the car
  • got some stuff to eat for in the car – cottage cheese and carrots

    Black Betty

    Black Betty the Sneak!

  • fed the stray cat that sneaked into the house and put her outside again (ala Flintstones!)
  • turned on the alarm and headed out (bringing the Excedrin Migraine just in case I needed some later)
So you see, it was not my finest morning, no stretching, yoga, and even my phone audio-out would not work in the car so I could not listen to my fav tunes as a pick-me-up on the way (crap).  At least I am doing something, and my clients appreciate my being there so off I go.

Not sure if there is a lesson here or if this is just a rant!

Ancient weapons of mass destruction

Good morning soldier,

Today you must prepare yourself for duty in your own personal quest!

Get you groove on and move out!

Here are your orders:

Relax!                                                                (calmly assess your surroundings)

Look Alive!                                                       (endeavor to at least look  alert)

Sit Up, or roll over to Child Pose!      (start the journey towards vertical)

Make Ready the Coffee Machine!       (pop some vitamins if you got em)

Prepare the weapon of mass destruction!       (tooth brush)

Engage the enemy                                                            (plaque)

Scrub and suit up!                                                          (dress)

Chow down!                                                                       (eat)

Make a Plan!                                                                 (strategize)

Basic Day Template

Nervous sytem.

There are many ways to start a new day.  For me it boils down to the following 4 things:

  • Brush teeth – Start off with fresh breath and get the germs out of your mouth for health reasons.
  • Do some Yoga or Stretching of some kind to get your nervous system engaged.
  • Bath and get dressed to get yourself presentable.
  • Eat something healthy to get your energy reserves charged up.

Also good to add:

  • Put on some music to get in a good mood.
  • Make a list of what you are going to do today to improve your organizational productivity.
  • Be loving to those you live with to inspire and nurture your friends and family.
  • Clean up after yourself to reduce the messy footprint on your environment.
  • Say out loud something you are thankful for as an important grounding and uplifting life thought.

Yoga and stretching are somewhat of a luxury because they can be a little time consuming, but I think the reward is worth getting up perhaps a little earlier for!

That’s it for this post.  More of a guide post than a personal blog but it fits with my purpose for starting this site, which is to help others who struggle as I do with getting up in the morning.

Get coffee!  Make toast.
Add cheese to toast, peal a hard boiled egg.
Grab an apple for the road and break home camp.
1.5 hours from bed to car.  Not a break fast by any means!  But I felt like a champ when I left.

Break Slow!

A Swiss Train

Routine is boring!

Last night I went to bed really early, like 9pm.  I was bushed from a 1 hr 17,5 mile bike ride Tuesday after work, and a hard workout Wednesday after work at the health club where i am doing TRX.  Learn more about TRX HERE.

So today I was able to get up really refreshed at 6:45 and I don’t even have to commute today!

Nice thing abut being a consultant is I can occasionally work from home.  So today it is: Get a cup of coffee and a piece of Dave’s Killer bread toast going, and email my clients that they can reach me at home this morning.

I am not going to hurry today.  But I will still get a lot done.

After my coffee I stretch and do some yoga, then I plan to work on a few web development tasks for clients.

I can here the train whistling but I don’t have to hustle, nice.

Break Fast!

28 Sep

Roll out of bed, find Sonicare toothbrush, load some toothpast and climb back into bed while teeth are being brushed.  God, I am lazy in the morning!

Roll out again, rinse, put toothbrush back,  and head to kitchen.

Start a pot of 12 Hard Boiled Eggs, hop in shower.

After shower feed cat, grab a container and drop in some goodies for breakfast snacks

  • 3 hard boiled eggs,
  • 1/2″ thick slice of jack cheese cut into 1/2″ strips,
  • break up some cauliflower pieces.

Eggs – protein check, Cauliflower – carbs check, Cheese – fat check.  Good to go!

Put the rest of eggs, cauliflower and cheese back in refrigerator.

Grab a cup of cold leftover coffee and head out the door.

Bed to car in 15 minutes with food and coffee to go.

Now that is breaking fast!

On the way to the bus station I munch on cauliflower and cheese and drink coffee.  Eat an egg at the station and get on the bus!  Whew, I just made it!
